We throw out enough stuff to fill the world's largest container ship with trash every two hours.
Our waste production is increasing
By 2030 the amount of household waste will almost double to 3000 million tons annually.
And this is just the top of the iceberg
Every bag of household waste has produced approximately 70 bags of waste upstream during extraction and production processes.
Where does it go?
Most waste goes to landfills or is burned. Burning waste is the world’s largest source of dioxins, which is one of the most toxic chemicals known to science.
What to do?
Our waste problem is not going away by itself. We need to find new ways to solve the increasing waste-problem. The “cradle-to-cradle” approach implies essentially waste free regenerative systems. Leading green companies already applies these principles.
Calculation: Waste density is approximately 741 kg / m3. The world’s largest container ship is 15,200 TEU and 1 TEU=39 m3. This means that the ship can contain 592,800 m3 of waste or 440,000 tons equivalent to 10.2 ships a day.
